Pediatric clinicians are essential partners in combatting the teen vaping epidemic. This two-part webinar series will provide a comprehensive overview of the clinical management of nicotine vaping among young people. The first session will review preventive counseling strategies, screening and assessment techniques, as well as brief motivational techniques for young people not yet ready to quit. The second session will review pharmacologic, behavioral, and the pivotal role of family and school-based support systems in addressing nicotine addiction among teens.

 

 

Target Audience

New York State primary care and family practice physicians, pediatricians, psychiatrists, psychologists, nursing professionals, social workers, residents, and other mental health, primary care, and pediatric clinicians.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:

- List 7 FDA-approved medications for tobacco cessation and at least 3 resources for behavioral support.

- Apply NRT counseling, prescriptions, and monitoring into clinical practice with youth.

- Identify how pediatric clinicians can help incorporate family and school support into nicotine cessation treatment plans.
