Project TEACH Statewide Intensive Training in the Essentials of Perinatal Psychiatry: Psychopharmacology and Psychotherapy

This free half-day virtual intensive training is followed by 3, one hour conference calls, and enhances maternal mental health clinicians skills to assess, treat and manage common mental health concerns in perinatal women. It is presented by Project TEACH.
Project TEACH is funded by the New York State Office of Mental Health and all services and events, such as this intensive training, are offered at no-cost to clinicians in New York State.
Module Topics:
- Discussing the Risks/Benefits/Alternatives to Perinatal Psychiatric Treatment
- Use of Antidepressants and Benzodiazepines in Perinatal Patients
- Use of Mood Stabilizers and Antipsychotics in Perinatal Patients
Target Audience
This program is intended for: NYS Obstetrics/gynecology and family practice physicians, psychiatrists, nursing professionals, residents, and other primary care clinicians working with perinatal women
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, learners will be able to:
- Correctly identify the risks of untreated, undertreated perinatal psychiatric illness and also to identify the risks of pharmacotherapies in pregnant and lactating patients, thereby enhancing prescriber ability to perform informed consent with their patients and recommend treatment.
- Correctly and optimally utilize psychotherapeutic approaches in addressing mental health needs of their perinatal patients
- Correctly identify/use psychotropic medications in the perinatal patients including use during pregnancy and lactation
