Making Sense of Individual Education Plans (IEPs): A Guide for Primary Care

This presentation will help primary care clinicians understand the anatomy, steps and their role in the IEP process.

Project TEACH is funded by the New York State Office of Mental Health and all services and events, such as this intensive training, are offered at no-cost to clinicians in New York State.

Target Audience

New York State primary care and family practice physicians, obstetricians/gynecologists, pediatricians and psychiatrists; as well as, psychologists, nursing professionals, social workers, residents, and mental health clinicians working with primary care, pediatric or ob/gyn practices.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, learners will:

  1. Review the structure and purpose of 504 Plans, Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and accommodations for children and adolescents with learning disabilities and mental health disorders.
  2. Describe strategies to efficiently read IEP reports.
  3. Obtain best practice resources for patients and families specific to IEP communications, advocacy, procedures, and rights.
